911 please help my oscar

Haha, I grew up knowing them as a "roly poly" but have also heard pillbug. I have no idea what the nutritional value of a roly poly is, but I do know that gut-loaded crickets are a nice healthy snack every now and again. You could always get some frozen shrimp from the local meat market, dice that up into apropriate sized cubes, and feed those to him for a boost in protein, (make sure to remove any leftovers from the tank, it will pollute the tank) feed him blanched veggies to add some vitamins, and if you're into it, (not everyone is) set up a 10g tank to breed guppies in, and let him have a "quick snack" every now and again. Its quite entertaining to watch, but its not for those who dislike seeing one animal eat another. If you do go with the guppy idea, feed them on a high quality flake food like omega, to ensure not only healthy/rapid growth in the guppies, but also to give your oscar an extra boost of nutrients. Oh, how's about some pictures of the oscar? :D

Edit: One thing I did think of... be careful of where you get insects from. If there are any pesticides used within say 5 miles of you, don't use the insects you find... the pesticides they may be carrying could kill your fish. :(

ok he is now done and finally got it down without a problem and has been perfectly back to normal for hours but know i have some new concerns that kinda have me even more worried....i mean that fish is like my child lol
k so what im worried about is that those "pill bugs" have a very hard shell and although it was kinda hard for him he seemed to have chewed it into less than one peice but im worried he wont beable to digest the shell and he definatly wont be able to **** it out whole, so if anybody has any info on what oscars can digest or how long it would take to digest i would be very greatful. turns out trying to put some variety in his diet is becoming a nightmare!

the first question, basically what goes in must generally come out. if he gets constipated you can dose some espsom salts in the tank, or feed him a mushed up pea. but I think he'll be fine.

Cute little guy. :) Search around the forum a bit, and you'll find lots of recipes for home-made fish foods. Some are rather involved, but some are quite simple, and provide your fish with not only the variety in their diet we strive to achieve, but also high nutritional value. I totally understand treating one's fish as their kids... I'm 21, and do not have children, but as far as I'm concerned, my fish are my kids. :D
