High Ammonia after 2 50% w/c

you have 5 tanks..are they all suffering from this?

if not you have an almost unlimited supply of bacteria.

tank has been up for a year. I have well water. I never thought of testing it. I just used this

No. just my 55. I know its over stocked but yesterday and this morning I did a 50% change. I made sure my sand was vaced both times and I got every little thing I could see.

Do more water changes, first off.
If it's a 1ppm now a 50% will put it at .5, and another 50% will put it at .25.

Assuming of course that your source water doesn't have ammonia in it.

How how surface agitation does the tank have?

Had the gravel/sand been vacuumed recently before, or was this the first time in a long time?

:iagree:, do some more water changes, that ammonia level is gonna harm them! Then we'll try to figure out why you've had an ammonia spike.

Im doing one right now. Every water change I grav vac. I've learned from this site early on to grav vac when doing a water change. Tap is ok. 0 on everything. My O's wont eat. I know they sulk but this morning it was diffrent they didnt seem right.

Would still test the tap water... maybe something has changed the water in your well...
wo might be making the problem worse if you well water is bad....

wow think I posted this at the exact time you posted that the well water is ok...
