I am setting up a tank for dwarf puffers and I have noticed that a lot of websites say that they are strictly freshwater (no salt). Does that include conditioning salt?

And also, does anyone in the South East area of Minnesota know where I can find some dwarf puffers? Petsmart in Onalaska, Wi carries them but they have not gotten any in a loooooong time and do not know when they will get some. there is another fish shop that I know of in that area but he said they do not sell puffers because of there temperment...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just straight freshwater.

Im in the Cities so I dont know about any LFS down that way, though I have seen them in about every store I have been to. I would advise calling your local store again and ask if they can special order some for you. Tell them that you are aware of why they dont stock them but assure them that you would be there to get them.

I caution against buying fish from chain stores as they do have a reputation of not having the healthiest stock but tons of people have no problem with them. The key is quarantine. :)

no need to use "conditioning" salt at all. any species that actually require salt in their water are brackish fish, and in that case you use marine salt, not regular salt. the only time you should add salt to a freshwater tank is to treat for the ich parasite.

We had to order ours online through Foster and Smith. There were none at any of the fish stores in our area.

Our PetSmart stopped carrying the dwarf puffers.. =[ and I'm under the impression that they all will within the next few weeks.

No such thing as "conditioning" salt. How big is the tank?
