Hey guys, I have a 2 gallon tank with a single betta in it. The water starts to smell really bad after a few days of a water change. I have had bettas before, and I do weekly 100% water changes and I have never noticed a smell like this. I'm thinking its just ammonia build up? Maybe Ill get a small plant like Java moss to take some of the ammonia out of the water?

What do you guys think? Should I just do more water changes? Do you think it will affect him?

Thanks!

100% water changes?? wow, thats not good since you are changing all the water. it needs filtration on it asap, and it would be nice to have some kind of plant in it, java is good.

Just smells... fishy and disgusting... and when I did the last water change (first one with this betta) it had this slimy looking white stuff floating in the water when i took the decor out. I have another two gallon with a betta (in a different location) that does not smell at all after a week, though tank has Java moss and an air filter in it.

there is your answer..... the tank is stagnant and when water sits it smells. especially with a pretty fish in it. it needs filtration to clean and put oxygen in to the water.
