Why would the "overstocked police" be the ones to explain to me? I was under the impression there are other stocklists worse than 20 glowlights, an angel and 10 cories.
20 glowlights in a 55 is packing it to capacity. You're asking for trouble adding an angel to that tank even with superior filtration as the angel, a CICHLID, will not be able to establish territory. The cories and glowlights would likely be fine, but I still wouldn't put 20, 12-15 would be max I'd put.
I think i may depend on the angel.
but I would not put 20 in a 55 with an angel and cories simply because of the bioload.
a couple angels and a school of 12 glolights may work but I would lean towards larger tetras the glo lights are on the small side and you may run into issues with an angel consuming a few.
black neons and even cardinals have worked for me in the past..neons and glolights have not.
you can try the glo lights but be mindful of possible consequences.
angels are known to try and eat anything they can fit in their mouths..

So how many should I be looking at? in some of my other posts about stocklists I got the impression that 20 glowlights would be OK with cories and pearl gourami...... now I am getting told this is overstocked?

Bleeding Heart Tetras are larger and less prone to predation by the angels..but that being the case you may wind up with a crowded tank. when the fish are all adults.
the bleeding hearts can hit 2.5" and are a larger body than the glolights you originally considered.
if you decided to go with this set up..keep that in mind and keep a close eye on the water parameters.

Edit: I just found this list http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144677&highlight=angel+compatible that Lupin wrote, think I will print it out and look for some of the tetras without any asterisks and put those with some angels. Now all I need to figure out is maximum numbers, for the larger tetras would 8 be Ok? and for the smaller bodied would 12 be Ok? this is with 2 angels and 9 cory cats.
