HAs anyone esle been duped into buying Rob Clarke's Discus Fish Secrets
http://www.discus-fish-secrets.com/?hop=wealth4ev

I am copying in the email i sent to Rob Clarke after i received it as it explains everything:

Hi Rob,
I have just ordered your ebook Discus Fish Secrets, and while i am looking forward to reading it, i feel a little duped by the sales process and, on initial viewing, a bit dissapointed with the product. They do say never judge a book by its front cover - but in this case there isn't one to judge it by!

You mention just once on your web page that it is an ebook. the only other time a reference is made to it (in reviews section) it is called a book.
The picture of a thick hard back book also reinforces the idea you are selling a book, not a Word document.
As i started downloading i thought, "oh well, at least my fiance works in print design. I can get her to print it off in colour and still get some good pictures."

So on skimming through the document i quickly realised there is not one photo, not even a diagram showing the filter system set up..
I stopped randomly on page 12 and read the first few paragraphs of the Strains chapter. Below is what i read, i have highlighted the mistakes in red :

There are plenty of strains of discus available on the market now but all originate from the same species symphysodon aequifasciatus. In the 80s the Germans were the first to develop the blue varieties and other colours but now east Asia develops some fascinating stains like snow whites which I am not a particular fan as well as the snakeskins etc.

New strains are been developed all the time and there is now getting a vast variety. However I would recommend the beginner sticks to the classic strains like red Turks and blue Turks etc as these fish tend to be harder and a little bit less fussy.

Maybe its bad luck that i chose to start reading there, but it doesn't give me much confidence in the rest of the document.
I am in no way knocking your knowledge on the care of discus and as i say i am looking forward to reading what you have written - a step by step, how to style is just what i was looking for. I just feel you should make it clearer it is an ebook you are selling and that it is a word document with no images. And i also feel you should spend some more time editing out spelling and grammar errors - its something i would accept on a discus blog or web forum but not in a paid-for document.
I paid around £16 for your Word document but yesterday i bought a 128 page hardback book on marine fishkeeping for £12.99. It's packed full of pics and i have scanned most pages and come across not one spelling mistake.
Please can i ask you to honor your money back guarantee. Again it is not the content of the document - i fully intend to follow your advice when i set my tank up - it's just the way it is delivered.

Thanks
Kris Collins

I sent this email on 27 Feb and have received no word despite claims on the site of a no hassle money back guarantee.
I am very dissapointed and now having read the document i feel even more let down. I don't even keep discus yet but i learnt nothing new from it that i haven't read on this site or elsewhere.

Just wanted to let you guys know so you don't make the same mistake. Hope no one already has.

I'm looking to set up a discus tank in the next year or so having successfully kept tropical tanks and african cichlid tanks for several years. Looking forward to picking up lots of expert knowledge for free on this site and meeting some good people.
Thanks
Kris

:welcome: thanks for tip. good luck with your tank

what a rip off there must be some one you can call about that .they cant just rip people off like that boils my blood

People put things up like that on automated sites. There probably isn't anyone answering any emails you send. The payments are most likely automatically deposited into his checking account. No effort whatsoever.

wow...I would call this the epitome of Caveat Emptor..let the buyer beware.
however, you may have been mislead ...did you try and get your money back?

I was under the impression there were actually four distinct specie of Discus.

things that make you go...hmmmm

wow 10 years of keeping and breeding Discus...

hmm..my bud has been doing this for over 30...

Depending on how you paid for it you may be able to get your money back. If you went through your bank or used a credit card they may be able to help you.

Thanks for the info, hmmmm about time we started a book review section about books on keeping fish.
