Grins' 55g Reef

Oh, forgot to mention. I rescaped last night, I'm terrible about that, can never decide. Anyhow, something must have really have made the fish and inverts happy because for the first time I saw the neon goby cleaning a fish, Honda the lawnmower. Honda was acting a bit nuts and deciding to visit the clownfish, Fred and Wilma. Wilma decided she was going to adopt the open brain coral where it now sits and is starting to defend her territory. Funny how much the "personality" changed with some re-worked rock.

Never seen a pink hydnophora before. I think I still prefer the green one myself, but it is cool. Hope you researched hydnophoras because they are VERY mean corals. One of the most aggressive out there.

Here is a quote from one of my reefclub members that just posted this yesterday on our forum and from experience it is the truth (about the coral):
Dude, if you're not already hip to the hydnophora jive, clear some space around that badboy. I've got a bigass one that is one mean b-i-a-t-c-h..Actually, capitalize that 'b'..She is freaking nasty, and seems to be able to get to anything within 2 inches of her at max fullness. I've learned to love her and hate her at the same time, though, much like my current girlfriend..have fun!

Funny you say that. After we upgraded my GF's tank from the 10 to a 20H, the lady clown tries to bump our hand back out of the tank whenever we try to glue down some frags. She was never that aggressive before, but now after the move, she is defending her territory. Its cool to watch. (And feel)

Yeah, my hydro has killed a few branches around it. Weird, it puts out some kind of white weblike substance and whatever it touches just dies.

Doesn't happen often, only in very close proximity.

Ya, I had to get rid of mine because a 29G is too small for one. There wasn't much it couldn't reach out and touch from a distance. I was even having my green clove polyps start to suffer and they are on the complete opposite side of the tank. I learned my lesson the hard way.. but it just looked so cool in the store and one coral I hadn't seen before. Chalk another one up to "impulse buying". I did my research after the fact.. and still waited a few weeks to see if it was true how aggressive they are.. well, I agree, they are as aggressive as you read and after seeing most of my tank start to suffer after placing it then get better after removing it, the hydnophora is one of the few corals placed on my "never to buy again" list.

Mine is in my 29g, and has been since I set it up. Of course, mine isn't quite as big as that one looks, but I haven't noticed anything looking ill because of it.

Of course, since it's been in there from the beginning, I have no frame of reference, either.

Oh well, carbon FTW! ;)

Of course I researched..lol. It doesn't have anything within at least 6".

It really is funny. Even the neon goby is now trying to adopt the brain as a host. I'm glad to see it inflated today, I was worried I might need to relocate it if the fish bothered it too much.

Come on Grins, you know we need pics of the rescape.

Soon, soon.

my brain is my neon goby's favorite place to hang out!
