My cray is getting braver...

When I first got him, he was very shy, only coming out from his cave at night when the lights were out. One month (and one shell change) later, his is much bigger, bluer, and venturing out during the day – although retreating PDQ when he sees me approaching with the camera!
As these guys are new to me, I would appreciate any tips you guys could offer to keep him healthy and happy...

nice snap. the actual cray you have is a male Red Claw Crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) only the males get the red claws and when they reach sexual maturity..

the apple snails in the pics will soon be lunch. i would remove right away unless your not bothered. pretty sure the angel wil start showing splits in its fins, where the cray will try to catch it.

i feed mine fish flakes, alge wafers different types, freeze dried blood worm and once a week they get a 1"cube of boiled chicken each.

i have had mine since they were 2" long and are now 6-7". thay have also mated and i now own 30-40 lil crayfish.

Hi there,

I have a Male Cray just like yours and he is fab... like yours he was shy initially but now he is a cracker. I have had him for around 2 years and he was the best buy i ever made for entertainment value... He clambers all over the place, loves trying to grab my hair.

Initially he was in my main tank but then he just turned and started having free fishey lunches which was not nice so he now has his own tank.... Looking to get him a girlie to keep him company...(Best kept in his own tank trust me). He even tried to have my 8 inch plec for lunch when he was small, he gradually stressed him so much that pleco gave up and died.

Anyway he has his own home now I have a happy main tank now with lots of plants (impossible to keep plants and crays).

Brilliant invert highly recommend keeping them....
