48 x 24 x 18 Reef Log

Looking good so far, Niko. I am a sucker for rimless tanks. Should turn out superbly (thinks about an upgraded rimless tank for self...hmm).

can't wait to see how this set up develops.

Thanks for the comments mate....

I actually wen back looking for a butt.:grinyes:

Let this be my guide to the salt water.

Hope its of some use for you....

Good post, thanks for taking the time to share!

No problem.... :)

Thanks Amphi...Yeah, i do like the look it gives....

Am going to buy some pure ammonia today or tomorrow as i am not showing any change in ammonia in the tank at all..I have a feeling that because i took all the live rock straight from one reef and put into mine, its converting the ammonia straight away....So, a little experiment with pure ammonia should confirm this for me...Last night i even dumped in a fair ammount of flake food with a view to making it produce ammonia and will check it again shortly....

Thanks for everyone's comments so far.. :)

A little update really....

Am gonna be testing the tank with some pure ammonia....Its not been a normal cycle so far to say the least...The shrimp has been rotting in the tank for a little over a week now and not a single change in ammonia or nitrites...The only time i noticed a change in parameters is when i slung in a handfull of flake food...and all i got then was a rise in nitrates...never a shift on ammonia or nitrites...Am thinking of using pure ammonia as a test so i can pretty quickly watch what happens with the ammonia, and how quick its being converted to nitrite etc etc...

So, please someone chime in if i am looking at this wrong...BUT...I think that because all my live rock was taken directly out of one reef tank and put straight into mine, the beneficial bacteria has remained and is actually working to full effect...I.E converting the ammonia throught the chain...

Peoples thoughts please, oh reef gods and goddess's....

I agree. Because the rock was from an established tank the beneficial bacteria has remained. A bit like when I upgraded my tank - just took it out of one and chucked it in another. I never had much of a cycle with that.

It will be interesting to see how it handles pure ammonia though!

Looks good Niko. I just got my refractometer in the mail on Friday, such a cool little gadget. I was pleased to learn that the SG in my various tanks were about where I wanted them though, so that was good.

I have always cycled my tanks with pure ammonia and it works very well but to just test the bio filtration of that size tank, I would use a very small amount. Maybe a 1/2-1 teaspoon of ammonia.

updates?!?!

Gahhhhh.....Currently waiting for some pure ammonia to arrive to test the tank...Thanks Schigara for the ammount suggestion....

All the diatom has gone now and the odd bit of green algae has formed in patches, which does suggest to me that its in the right direction..

Was given a coral yesterday, and is currently sitting in the nano...A rock "full" of rhodactis indosinensis...There is about 30 odd shrooms on the rock...here is a pic....I have some fragging to do ;)
