That's awesome, I need to get another tank and then get a couple of these, they look so awesome.

Don't completely remove the power filter and replace it with the sponge, your tank will probably have to re-cycle, and it would become a hazardous environment. I would just cover the intake of the filter with a sponge and call it a day.
 
Also drop the water level some. The filter will make more noise from the water returning. The reason for this is the babies and sometimes juvies may swim up the outflow. Remember plecos live where there is current so they just go exploring "up river" which in a tank is the outflow of a powerfilter.

Taping up the intake, or covering with sponge, is easier said than done- on the Fluval there are quite large louvres in the body of the filter box where the water is sucked in.

I am worried that the sponge filter will not provide enough water circulation, but this filter medium should contain sufficent bacteria as the filter was running for over a month in the baby Geophagus iporangensis tank. I've also left the filter cartridges in from the Fluval- just removed the powerhead and box. I'd expect the bacteria on there to decline slightly due to the reduced water flow over them, but not disappear from the filter cartridges completely; I've done this before when I've had a surplus filter and not noticed much of an ammonia/nitrite spike if I've had to set the filter up again in a new tank.
 
I think the male is going to have to lose his cave, or I'm going to have to remove the females for a bit- I've still got over 40 of that spawn in the tank, and now the male's released a second brood of offspring. As I'm still doing daily 50% water changes I'm going to get sick of these guys pretty quickly!

LOL..I just wish you could ship me some of those for free. They're very expensive here due to high demand and not many people even try to breed them.

Trust me, you only need to buy a male and a female and you're set for life! (and make a cave for the male- mine showed no interest in spawning in even cave-like ornaments). They were what I consider to be quite expensive for <1" fish when I bought them (£4 each, about US$8, but at the time I bought them I had to go to about 6 different LFS as most were trying to tell me they were an L-number and much more expensive), but out of about 8 members of our aquarist society, 4 or 5 of us had clutches at once!

The problem I've got is water quality- I need a MUCH more powerful air pump as the fry dive into power filters (or even uplift tubes on the sponge filter), and the sponge filter isn't moving water round the tank enough.
 
In their defence I'd say the babies are SERIOUSLY cute (even though they have to be gently pushed out of the way ever 1/2" during gravel vacs).
 
You're inspiring me to spend more money to try all the BN's I can find.lol I have two here already which I believe are females. As searching for more BN's prove to be rather difficult, I'll keep trying until I can find a male. Searching is the only problem I must admit.:) Weird I know for some people who can get plenty in their own areas but Law of Supply and Demand has its influence.
