thanks terror its good to know that its normal for them to do that.i had a feeling because my oscar did that with all his food not just pellets.so what do you think about feeding my dempsey brine shrimp every other day?
That is a beautiful female dempsey!here is an updated picture of jack the rip[per that i took today. he seems to be doing very well on the brine shrimp and i cant wait to start him on bloodworms.he gets very excited when i ut the brine shrimp in and his colors really come out.this picture was takin tonight at feeding time.
She could be full of eggs and looking for a mate. I've noticed that dempsey's do not dig unless they are ready to breed. This would be the time of year.ok thanks ill try that. does he look healhy to you from this picture?he has been more active the last couple days but is it normal for him to do alot more swiming up and down than side to side?its not at all like he is off balance or anything, personally i think it looks like a happy swim but he rarely used to swim this way and today he has been doing much more digging and much more vertical swimming.

And from the looks of her she is very healthy.
I'm pretty sure she is spoiled and does not go hungry very often.
I would not starve her just to make her eat what you want her to. Just introduce a few more types of food. Fish prefer certain things for a reason. It is a natural awareness of food that compliments their health. In nature there are many fish that live solely on one particular food source.
As for the brine shrimp..just feed like you are and try introducing other previously mentioned food before you throw the shrimp in. If she likes it she will waste no time.
None of my fish will eat the "designer food" that all local shops seem to think is better. I watched my fish go hungry for three days trying to feed them the expensive stuff. Then I got their wardley and they literally jumped in my hand getting at it!
