I'll try to make a long story short. Our newest project is a 29 gallon which will be my husbands' tank. He wants Mollies. After asking questions here at AC we think it might not be a good idea to try to have a "Molly Only" tank with a couple of bottom dwellers. We were at the LFS on Sunday and my husband fell in love with this fish. She was labeled a "guppytail" Molly, and is mostly black with a lot of silver spots, almost like a dark Dalmation Molly. My husband came home with her last night, and told me to go look in the tank. Yes guys I know QUARANTINE first but, well, he put her in there before I got home. :headshake2:. So far everything is okay. She ate well this morning and is getting along with the other fish. Her name is "Golly Miss Molly". IMG_0109.jpg

We were so surprised at the various new Molly types available. Mollies have come a long way since the time I had a couple of them when I was a kid!

Guppy tail mollies are not new, but are certainly not common. I remember reading an article in FAMA when I was a little kid that discussed the difficulty of breeding them true to type. Your fish happens to have really good finnage for the type by the way... Also, it looks like your she could be a he with a deformed gonopodium.

REALLY - My Miss Molly might be a Mr. Molly? How would I tell about the gonopodium? Is there something you can direct me to read about it? Also, I thought the whole "guppytail" was a made up kind of name - I haven't had mollies in many years so this is so new to us.

Nice fish.
