Can someone ID this American Cichlid for me?

Red-tailed black shark (Epalzeorhynchus bicolor) grows to 6 inches and can be aggressive. Not a problem with barbs. Rainbow shark (Epalzeorhynchus frenatus) grows to 6 inches as well and similarly is aggressive. Both are cypriniformes, not catfish.
 
It took a while to get him w/o one the drama queens crowding him out...and now that I have the pic, well, I'm a bit embarassed to give it. Sitting about 4 metres away, he looks lovely in the tank...he's so shy, that he tends to hide in the deco stump whenever someone comes near the tank...but this pic...well...I'm guessing he's been taking a bit of a beating from the big guys. :( None-the-less...here it is. Please say he's an RTS!

Glad to hear it isn't the RTC.lol RTC's wouldn't think twice swallowing all your fish. Have you joined MFK yet to give away some of your fish? What's your current plan?:)
 
Well, at least I have a couple reasonable fish in the set up...

But, seeing the state of his fins close up here has me worried about him. I could move him back to the the larger tank with the African cichlids for now, until I get this other situation worked out...

I suppose I'll have to keep him in a holding tank to acclimate him...he's in a 6.5-ish pH now, and the other is 8.0+ ...OTH, the other isn't in particularly ideal condition at the moment. Odd, as I watch him, he doesn't seem to be getting picked on... Then again, they're probably all a bit confused at the moment. I powered the lighting to get make a photo of him...then all the flashing and such...anyway...

Just for fun, here's my Firemouth using the 'bidet' ...he spends quite a bit of time with his backside over the bubbles... :D

Joined a bit ago (after you first mentioned) but haven't got past looking at all the interesting photos in the gallery yet..

As for getting rid of...well...I'm honestly NOT too partial to the barbs, or the pictus cats, or these Midas for that matter--only because they're so vicious towards others I like very much... I googled the barbs, and am very disappointed to find that they're NOT South American fish as advertised, but South ASIAN fish...it sort of throws of my intended 'theme'...

I really am in love with the Flowerhorn fella...he's so unique looking (well, to me anyway) and he was such an 'underdog' when I got him. As I mentioned, he was very ratty and small. I really didn't expect him to live. Then there's the convicts and the green terrors, and the I guess Jack Dempsey? (sp?) They're all very lovely too...Mr. Firemouth is by far one of my favourite of all, so I certainly couldn't part with him.

Let's say I were to keep the following: 1 Firemouth, 1 JD, 2 GT, 2 Convicts, and the 1 Flowerhorn (in one set up); who large would it need to be to keep them happy and healthy? I cold keep the current tanks with the 2 pictus cats and the RTS (THANK GOODNESS that's what he is!) It's a rather unpleasant ordeal to catch the pictus cats, and for whatever reason, they seem to like the smaller tank better. They rarely showed themselves except to eat (had they not already gobbled down a convenient tank-mate) in the bigger tank.

Sorry...It's past the witching hour for me, but I'm trying to make the most of my last week holidays from classes...and I'm just a bit rambly anyhow, so, with the latter three as is, barbs and midas to new homes or what have you, could I keep the other 7 (FM, JD, GTx2, Convictsx2, and the FH) in one tank, and if so, what would be the most reasonable size with all considerations (them vs my pocket) ?
