Sanitizing Plants and the WPG rule breaking down for 10 gals?

Though I might get these couple of questions out of the way.

How reliable is this? It's a blog entry about the breakdown of the WPG rule over 10 gal tanks.

So I wouldn't worry about sanitizing plants, but I have frogs in my aquarium, I'm upgrading soon and plants can carry the chytrid fungus. 10% salt solution for 10 minutes will kill off the chytrid-but it will kill off the plant, too. I've heard the same about bleach dip. What do I do? Any suggestions? I have to sanitize them, it's not an option.

I mostly use 19/1 bleach dip, @ 1-2 minutes in 80 degree tap water, a little longer for hardier species like ferns. I don't submerse roots. Then throw them in some dechlorinated 80degree tap water, give 'em a little swish and that's it.

Other methods include Excel bath or H202 bath.
 
Do you know if there is any way to sanitize the roots? How much of a survival rate do you have? Thanks so much for the advice! Usually I would just run some hot water from the tap on them, heh. This fungus has to go and make my life harder.

Well I dip the roots, I just don't soak them. Some plants are more sensitive than others. The only plant I've hurt due to bleach dip was African fern.

*I don't think plants like temps. much above 85degrees/considered tepid. 85 feels Luke warm to my callused hands.
 
I use a product called Clear Water by Jungle, which has potassium permanganate. Dilute by adding to water (pinkish - purple tint), then dip the entire plant for 5 minutes, then rinse in de-chlorinated water.

SchizotypalVamp, this is actually the safest method from what I've read.
I'm just a DIY guy and it works.:)
 
I have always used the 19 parts water and 1 part bleach dip for 30 sec to a minute when a tank developed black algae. Killed the algae and all the plants stayed in great condition.

so i was reading this and was trying to calculate what i would need for my tanks but I am just not following very well. It says
Now I know what you are thinking. I can do watts per gallon pretty easy. But how do I figure this LSI thing? Well find the surface area of your tank in square inches. Then take the LSI number you want to reach. Multiply the surface area by the LSI. Take the result and divide it by the LUX rating of your chosen light. I will admit that this system is not perfect by any means. But I think it gives a better idea than the WPG rule
surface area x LSI number / LUX rating of your chosen light = Watts needed

I always liked the problem solving questions in math & physics class, but I cannot figure out the LUX rating. Does it have anything to do with 6700K or 10,000K lumins? It has got to be easier than i am making it out to be, help understanding would be great! (sorry SchizotypalVamp for side tracking the thread.)
