I just ordered 11 red mangrove shoots to put in my fuge. They are supposedly excellent at exporting nutrients. Anyone have any experience with them?

I have one in my fuge...11, you must have a very large fuge/system. I have gotten mixed reviews from the LFS and online about the benefit. Perhaps if have more than just a couple you will see the benefits. I have had mine for about 3 months and it just started to 'sprout' where the leaves are present. The one I have is in the fuge buried inthe sand.

I dont have any experience with them no. But I am in the process of planning a 3g nano, and am planning to bonsai a mangrove out of the open top of the aquarium, having it rooted to the liverock. We shall se how it works, I am interested to see everyones response here as well... maybe it wouldnt be a good idea in a nano of that size...

But 11? what size is your tank? are you planning on having a small forest under your aquarium? lol.

I have a mangrove in my fuge and it's probably grown by a factor of 2-3 times since I put it in. Of course I only have 1 in my fuge and I wonder if you'd really need 11 in your fuge, unless its huge. My fuge is 20 gallons and my tank is 55 gallons.

The only problem I really have with it is the height of the mangrove. It probably has added 6-8 inches since I planted it and it outgrew the light I had provided for it. I ended up having to get a new light just to light the mangrove.

yeah, seeing as to how its a tree, this is why I plan on practicing bonsai on it, especially since they grow fairly fast. And a miniature mangrove might look kinda cool.

ther are mangrove islands everywhere in the ocean around here. they get huge, but iv never seen a massive one that was home grown

by the way they ARE trees, very large trees

actually Mangroves can be large shrubs..i believe there are several species(3) some of which can grow to 80' but many are large shrubs some getting to 20'.

when I think of a vary large tree i see 120-150' pine trees as being large with sequioa giganteum(giant sequoia) or sequoia sempervirens(redwood) as a very large tree.

I have a freind who is using one of the species of mangrove in his fuge. it takes a long time for them to grow(IME)
