Yesterday night, me and my dad where sitting, watching the Kuhli Loaches go nuts after I dropped in a heavy pinch of live bloodworms. But then I saw one get wedged into a crack between some driftwood and the glass, when I noticed that she looked swollen and her bottom half had a dark green tone to it. And when I looked very closely, I could see tiny spheres about 1mm in diameter in her stomach. Then about 2 minutes later, I saw that another Kuhli with different markings had eggs in her too!

What do I do to make sure they actually breed and how do I take care of the eggs?

Well, I'm looking at it right now, (Literally) and I see dark green bottom half, with tiny spheres in them. 2 out of the 6 Kuhlis are pregnant.

whoops, I'm wrong, they have been. Wow, that's really awesome! Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Here is a quote from loaches online:

"
Kuhlis are great at getting into awkward places. Undergravel filters are less in vogue these days, but aquarists occasionally stripped down tanks that they had previously kept kuhlis in only to find a population that had obviously bred in the tank hidden beneath the undergravel plate.

Makes you wonder if some PVC tubes under gravel with open ends would help breed them.

yeah i have heard of them breeding in undergravel filter trays

Kuhlis have been bred but it's almost always accidental. You should see how tiny the babies are! There are some new pangio pics on Loaches.com http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=13737&sid=aaab2c3265ac40ae4e5ed5ff268a20fb

Puffers has a good idea but those babies are food sized for any fish that eats bloodworms. What other fish are in with them? My females are often gravid but no fry :shakehead:. It would be very cool if you can get them to spawn :grinyes:. Good luck!

I think they are gravid from being in a tank with an UGF. I transfered them from that tank to the main one. (20 gallon in signature.)

Maybe having an UGF in a tank with Kuhlis get them to be gravid.

I thought they hadn't been bred in captivity?
They have been bred in captivity. On the other hand, I have a gravid yoyo loach but no chances for them to spawn. Several of us have reported seeing gravid yoyos but none are successful to spawn them.:(

Fishorama beat me.
