New filter and cutting a gravel vac

I am looking to add an additional filter to my 55G, currently it has a Whisper 60 HOB. I am looking to add either an Aquaclear 70, or an Aquaclear 110. The question I have is would the Aquaclear 110 be overkill? Especially when used with the existing filter.

Also, the water pressure in my house is not great. When I use my Python, it sucks up everything off the floor, but so much of it never makes it to the top of the gravel vac tube itself, it gets to about an inch from the top before falling again. If I were to cut about 2" off the gravel vac tube would this help with actually making it easier to suck up the junk from the substrate? or would I actually be causing things to get worse?

Thanks.

I think the AC 110 would be fine. Just keep an eye on your Angels, I believe they prefer less water flow...but you can always turn down the output of the AC and I believe the 60 as well. If you can get a canister to supplement the 60, that would be better. Or ditch the 60 all together and get a canister and the 110...though that would be a pricey upgrade.

I use a Python to vac my tank...and what I do is use the large tube attachment to get a majority of the stuff on my sand, then for the heavier stuff, I take off the large attachment and just use the tube to get the rest. Can you do that with yours?

That is a great idea, its mostly the heavier stuff that does not make it all the way up. I am pretty sure the gravel vac will just pull off on my Python as well. Its WC day today, so will give it a try, I can use the large attachment to move all the heavier stuff to one spot to make it even easier.

Removing the attachment worked great, I sucked up as much as I could with it on, then took it off and picked up any large bits that were left over. The smaller and more powerful suction also helped me pick bits of crap out from my driftwood.

This combined with my new cory cats has my sand looking nice and clean.
