Ok so i decided im going to get a 45 gallon tank. Im planning on doing mostly rock and maybe some taller silk plants in the backround. Im going to get one redtailed black shark and probaly 15-18 tiger barbs. My only question is can i mix the regular tiger barbs with the green tiger barbs and have a mixed school? Also could i ad some shrimp or would this be a bad idea with the shark

I don't know about your schooling questions but I would be more worried about the Barbs getting at your shrimp than the shark.

Yeah, the shrimp may not be okay.

Green tigers are just a variety of normal tiger barbs (puntius tetrazona) so they should mix just fine :)

Green tiger barbs are just selectively bred from the original tiger barbs. All morphs are still the same species regardless and should be able to school around together.

Shrimp will become little snacks, but you can slow the process down with a good amount of plants for cover. I sometimes put shrimp in my tanks, cause I can buy them locally for .30 each, and dont mind letting my fish each them.

Yeah the shrimp will end up as tasty little shrimp puffs, get some mystery snails instead.

Shrimp around here are 15 cents here each. ;)

i would be more worried about the RTS getting at the tigers. a school of 18 tiger barbs may still nip at the RTS, but not as much as if there were 6. the shark will start to go after the tiger barbs eventually.

Maybe, RTS are pretty 50/50 when they mature, some are the perfect community fish and some go rabid.
