I was just wondering what would make a better carpet/fry hiding spot. I was thinking about trying to have the dwarf hairgrass as a carpet and the java moss grow on a piece of driftwood that is in the center of my tank. But idk how easy that would be to do.

Well, I only have the one light that came with the tank. Its a 15w full spectrum light. I'm not sure what type of light it is. I'm looking into getting another light that would possibly fit into the existing fixture that would be a better suited to plant growth. The substrate is play sand for the corys. Water params are ammonia=0 nitrites=0 and nitrates = <10 GH = ~30 and KH = ~80. I already have an amazon sword and some other small plants growing pretty well.

PS-- I cannot see how an amazon sword plant can grow with 15watts.

yea, i was figuring i would have to upgrade the light. Is there any bulb that would fit into the existing fixture, its an 18" bulb. I'm quessing its a flourescent. Or would i have to buy a whole new fixture and hood?

Hornwort is a great plant for fry. You can float it or anchor it to the bottom. By anchoring I mean don't put the plant in the substrate, just use something like a few pond stones to hold it in place. It grows like crazy and is easy to keep in any type of lighting.

Considering you have the standard hood that came with the tank its probably T8 lighting which you cannot really up in wattage. So you would have to get a whole new fixture. Look into Coralife FW fixture (can try 65w fixture) or go for an ahsupply kit.
