Got my 1st Jardini Arowana!!!!!!

The Jardini is peacuful. He hasn't even touched one of my other fish yet.

This is comparable to pulling the pin out of a grenade, and not having it explode at the 5 second interval it is designed to explode at. Just because it took longer than 5 seconds does not mean that it isn't still a live grenade, and it should be treated as if it were, whether or not it ever actually explodes.

Even if the fish grows to its full size in 5 years, and hasn't attacked anything in those 5 years, doesn't mean that it will never choose to do so. It is the simple fact that it posesses the ability to kill anything in that tank which should make you reconsider its living arrangements. Granted that we've already discussed the fact that it cannot live its whole life in a 125g tank, you will likely want to be looking into funding and placement ideas for a 240+ gallon tank VERY soon, for the sake of being precautious and protecting your other livestock. You can house a lion with a chicken and have the two co-exist for a while, assuming you keep the lion well fed... but as soon as that lion gets hungry or bored... the chicken will cease to exist.

Yes I do plan on upgrading to a bigger tank!

so how is that different from aquariums that have sharks and "regular fish"?

if the sharks aren't well fed, it would eat the fish.

Its all based on circumstance. In a home aquarium, most of us would rather avoid having one of our fish eating the rest of our livestock. (as dumb as this sounds, I had a rescued BGK eat about 12 cardinals a few days after I rescued it... needless to say, I found another home for it) In an aquarium large enough to house sharks, the owner can likely afford to lose a few fish if the shark ever gets hungry enough to start ripping up their livestock. I guess it all just comes down to choice. I'm not saying you HAVE to give the Jardini its own tank, I'm just supplementing the general notion that it would be wise to consider the possibility, especially if you don't want to risk having any of the other fish in the tank injured/killed. Basically... its a calculated risk, and we just want to make sure that an informed decision has been made, rather than just assuming "oh, it hasn't killed yet, it never will." I compared this to the live hand grenade for a fairly specific reason. When I lived in CO, my dad and I used to find old .50 cal bullets littered all over the property the local reservoir was on, since it used to be an old military training facility. One day, I found an unexploded 40mm grenade round. (no joke) I wanted to bring it home, and managed to sneak it home, but my mother was so uncomfortable knowing it was in the garage that she got my dad to get rid of it. It didn't blow up X number of years ago, so I figured it never would. My mom wasn't willing to take the 1/1,000,000 chance that it would. Personal choices... nowadays I'd never let something like that near my family. :\

so you're just going to let the jardini kill off whichever fish he doesn't like?

have you talked to your lfs yet to make sure they take unwanted large fish on the spur of the moment? not all of them do.
