this is easy, if you are able to read through a long article here is the link short one on just the mixture over here

I use DIY Co2 in my tanks. I disagree with this statement:
“Also, we add too much sugar.
Ethanol and sugar are increasingly toxic to yeast at greater than 10% concentrations.
Therefore 2cups (~500ml) of sugar in 2L of water (~25% sugar) is unhealthy for the yeast.
It is also a waste of sugar because 10% sugar will yield roughly 10% Ethanol at which point the yeast stop growing anyway. Special strains of yeast, like champagne and wine yeast, have stronger cell walls that protect them from the Ethanol -- so they grow longer.”

I’m not a chemist but I am a hobbyist. When I add more sugar than the recipe calls for to the mix, the CO2 output increases dramatically. It also doesn’t last as long (2 weeks instead of 3-4 weeks} That may in fact what the statement says.

I don’t know what your question is but I’d do a DIY CO2 search on AC and go by the recipes you find here.

Good luck,
Charles

Would a set up like that work for a 72 gal bf? The guy said he uses it on his 150 gal? Anyone tried this b4?

The whole point of adding less sugar is so you get a consistent co2 output which will last for those 3-4 weeks.. With too much sugar sure you get an increased output during the first few days but then it slowly levels out and decreases and that = a ph swing = co2 inconsistency

:iagree: with bk828 it will work, but why by the time you add the coast and time and mess you are much better off with a pressurized co2.

I used to do 2 3L bottles and what a mess clogging, stalling leaking I finely went with pressurized co2 and I don't regret it for a second.

Tara Nyberg's has done more research than any one should do on yeast but that quote does not sound like her.

hmm only if i could find the links.. this one guy kept 75-100g+ tanks with diy co2 and they looked amazing.. It is possible to make it work, as draal said it can be a mess. But if you make a solid setup then dont see why its not possible. I think the main screwup with diy is that many ppl get leaks from poor setup or get bad output from an improper mix. All problems easily solved.

I read that adding 10grams of egg white to the mix will cause it to last i think it was 500% longer or something. The is something in the egg white. I don't remember where i read it at. i just started my Co2 batch yesturday and will see how long it lasts. ill try to find the link.
