Big fish at an LFS.

I've spent almost 8 hours already trying to find either life sized posters OR stuffed animals and haven't had a bit of luck. So, c) expense may be added.

Get some light cardboard/poster board and make a cut out of the fish. Colour it in with felt pens. Put its name and tank requirements on the back. Include information on how many should be kept together.

i think it would be a good idea to print up some life size pictures of full grown clown loaches, pacu's, monster cats, oscars, ect. to hang on the wall near the area where they are sold so people will actually see how big they get before buying. i think this would be more effective than just saying that the fish will get really big.

It is a great idea, but you have no idea of my lack of artistic ability. People would ask... "Do they really get that ugly when they're older?". Actually, that may work. lol

just draw lots of spikes and fangs and that actually could work...either that or people think you are crazy

Get some clever bod in a print shop or something to blow up some pics and mount them on cardboard etc.

While you're at it get a few life size prints of yourself...leave them around the place...people will think you're the most efficient/energetic/busiest guy in there ! albeit the strong/silent/2 dimensional type.

Make up labels for your tanks that include the adult size of each fish, shoaling data ie how many should be kept together, and minimum tank size to keep it properly. Appropriate tankmates. Aggressiveness. Warnings about potential problems.


Put a male betta in every tank that has peaceful community fish. Do not stock ANY fishbowls or betta houses unless they are at least 5 gallons and FILTERED!

When a mother and child come in for their fish, explain to the child how the fish must be taken care of if it is to stay alive and healthy. Such things as breathing and space to run around in will get the child relating to the needs of the fish they are buying. If the parent insists on taking the comets anyway, puts them in a fishbowl after you have explained they need a 20 gallon tank, and they die at least that is a lesson learned. That kid maybe will think through requirements for the animal in the future. Unfortunately, the parent is probably a lost cause. If someone has not developed compassion for living creatures by the time they are grown up and raising their own family, they will probably never develop that trait.

Thanks! Very good thoughts and alot of them echo my own, especially in regards to the bettas. The 6 for $2000 w/ tank just cracked me up!
