Plant advice please

ok i understand about algae now, but i still have a question about watts per gallon in a shallow tank. If you were to have a 20 watt 6700k in a 10 gallon tank (12" high) and if you were to have that same light on a 20 long (also 12" high, obviously the tube would be longer), would it make a difference to the plants? Since we are talking about depth not volume, i dont know?
 
I guess if your just talking about depth, then the light penetration would be the same. But since they have different lengths, the intensity changes, due to the fact that the 10gal has all it plants directly under the bulb.

True but the bulb for the fluorescent hood for a 20 long is 24" instead of 18" like in the 10 gallon. So you could put the plants that needed more directly under. I dont know im just trying to reason with logic here lol.
 
If you could find a dual NO (normal output) Fluorescent strip, for a combined 40watts. You could easily keep crypts, anubias, java fern and mosses really easy, with out nutrient and co2 addition.

I do have a 30" all glass aquarium fluorescent light, how would i turn it into a double strip light?
