Strange behavior?

:help: I have a slightly planted 55g with (3)yellow labs-(1) 4",(2) 3"; (1) 5" CAE; (1) 4" C.Afra?; (1) 3" FM. I have been noticing different fish rubbing on the rocks in the tank.The fish seem to eat and respond fine though, and I haven't noticed any with clamped fins.
I do a 25% water change every 2 weeks(or when nitrates get above 20) The readings for the tank are: 0 ammonia,0 nitrites, 20 nitrates, pH 7.4 temp is between 79 and 80 degrees. I use API liquid tests for the above readings.

They could be showing aggression, sometimes my mbuna will do that in front of another male.

sometimes mbuna and tangies will flash if the PH is too low or not right also when the other properties are out of whack, also the dreaded ich will cause them to flash against objects.. check your fish very closely for signs of ich and recheck your PH make sure your test kits are up to date and are not way to old because they could give you a wrong reading..

im hopeing that FM doesn't mean fire mouth for you, id say you had a ph spike, or there could be ich. but thats easy to spot. if you see white dots along the fish you have ich.

yeah i am like you nano i hope thats not firemouths either, two different sets of water perimeters is uaually not to good for central americans and malawi africans to be together..

Yeah, I mean Firemouth. I removed my breeding con pair to a 10g, and traded the other FM I had for a C.Afra? I did put some dolamite(spelling?) to up the pH(it was at 7.0) I have had fish with ich before, and haven't noticed any on these fish.

I don't see what's wrong with this fish? I have read they can be aggressive, but I haven't seen it anymore aggressive than the other cichlids.

Wiat 'til it reaches 10 inches. Despite its slow growth rate, it still has the potential to reach that size and may resort to slime coat as its means to satisfy its appetite. The bigger they get, the nastier they get.
