Do most LFS have a no-dead policy?

I only forgot about him for a few hours.

Then I took out a notebook for a meeting and saw his little plastic coffin. Then I took it out and was looking at it thinking what the heck is that. Then I remembered...ehhhhhhhhhdnothingnowonwiththemeetingnodeadfishinmybriefcasenoneatalllwhywouldyouaskthatletsgettoworkLOOK! overthere ! *duck*

I usually buy my common fish from Petsmart because they have a simple 14 day refund policy and good prices. I only have two LFS in my area and they are both ridiculously overpriced. (Neon Tetra are usually $1.99 each, compared to .99 at Petsmart). In addition, both LFS here have no return policy to speak of. It's a manager's discretion policy, so basically if they like you, sure, if they don't know you, forget about it.

I browse all the time but I seldom buy. The owner of the one closest to me asked me why I never buy anything, and I was honest and told him. "You are too expensive. It's cheaper for me to buy from aquabid.com or Petsmart. Sorry." He looked at me like I had just slapped him and said, "Well, they don't have the quality that I do."

Not wanting an argument, I just shrugged and continued on my way. If their quality is so superior, why don't they offer a written guarantee on their fish with a water sample? I am not going to pay 50% more for a fish with no guarantee just to support the "little guy".

Hear, hear. Unfortunately, that is why I don't like to go to LFS unless they have something that the big places don't. When you visit a small, non-corporate shop, wouldn't you expect better customer service? I seem to be going to shops that have little to no customer service. Big stores make their money on numbers and shops should be able to make their business on quality and service
