Penguin 300 Question

I just got a used tank and filter needs a little maintenance. I am going to replace the biowheels-and other media as well. But It pumps very strong. I am putting it in with a oscar and a placo it has a non covered inlet in the water. Should i put some foam over the open end so they dont get stuck to it or, will the fact that they are both over a foot long be enough that they dont get stuck?

For future reference the filter is not in tank yet the tank is still cycling with another filter in place until i get this one set up to start filtering as well just planning ahead.

I doubt the open intake would affect them at all, but it'd be a good idea to throw a piece of foam on there.

65 Gallon. I was also planning on either using a whisper 40 with it or a large sponge filter i made that works awesome.

Is the penguin 300 enough filtration for 1 oscar and 1 pleco both are over a foot long.

And yes i know it should be a bigger aquarium but i could not pass up this deal and I cant go larger on aquarium size until i buy the home i have on land contract.

OH and i am also a machine when it comes to water changes every saturday i do my partials on all 5 of the aquariums.

IMO, no. I'd begin looking at instead of a whisper 40, a Magnum 350, an XP3 or a C-360. If your getting a bigger tank, possibly a 120 or so, look at getting two of the above filters. No such thing as over filtration, especially poop machines such as an oscar and pleco.

I have bio wheels,and even if your pleco or oscar happen to get stuck to the intake tube,I guarantee they could get free.With the bio load from those 2 fish,not having the end on it might be a good thing.Nothing worse than seeing a big piece of poop stuck to the end of it,lol.I would add another filter though.Both of those fish need lots of filtration.Another bio wheel would be adequate.Or you might want to spend the money on a cannister.Having 2 large fish like that,overfiltration would be a very good idea.
