Snail time!

You should probably stop favoring apple snails and think of snails in general.

You don't know the snails I keep. You should really keep comments like that to yourself or in a private message.

If you would like to know what snails I keep feel free to pm me.

Oh, the link the OP posted.

It was a very bad attempt to get the thread back on subject.

Snail milk sounds like a luxury item. I don't think you need it for growth, I have never heard of it or use it before. Haven't seen any problems. If you have the cash lying around, go wild on it. But even then, I would still probably just save the money and feed the usual stuff, algae wafers + dead things.

I have to say that the best things for a snail are definitely not algae wafers and dead things - rather, calcium-rich veggies, like msj mentioned. It's important to include a steady source of food with lots of calcium because snails do not take in all their calcium through the water column - much of it is from food. Algae wafers and dead things are not good sources of calcium. Of course this applies to apples and similar species (GCR, spixies) for the most part - they require thick, strong shells due to their relatively large size.
As far as snail milk, I imagine it's mostly liquid calcium and calcium powder. It's easier just to regularly dose liquid calcium or feed snail cookies/jello with powder in the recipe, but I'm sure the snail milk would work either way. It probably has the most application for fishkeepers with soft water and low pH, or the larger species - canas, haustrums, insularum, etc.

What can you do when you know you have a lot of fish in your tank that keeps competing the snails and plecos for the algae wafers.....

can someone supply a picture of the spixis snail?
