ANY ammonia is potentially toxic, especially if your pH is alkaline. The fact that there is markup involved only means that there are expenses involved in having a business that then has to deal with people who would do such an unethical thing, IMO. You didn't research the fish, didn't check your water before you introduced the fish, and now you take no responsibility. One of our big jokes on a discussion board I frequent is "I didn't kill it, it just died!", stemming from a comment I made about dealing with people in a retail situation.

Keep telling yourself you aren't responsible and it's ok to cheat someone because they might have actually managed to make a slight profit on the sale of your fish. Do you buy all of your stuff online and then need help from your LFS in treating for disease in a panic also?

Situations like this are why I only have a conditional guarantee on the fish I sell. The looks on people's faces when I show them there's chlorine in the sample they brought me so THAT must be what killed the fish is priceless ;).

I worked in retail for 7yrs and if you purchase an item for .49 and sell it for $3.29 that more than covers your expenses!

I work in retail too, and that is not necessarily true at all. Do you know how much electricity it costs to run a bunch of fish tanks? What about die off and all the other incidentals that come up when dealing with livestock? Markup aside, if there's not enough traffic through the store, they aren't gonna turn a profit either. Regardless of the profit margin, the fact of the matter is, its most likely your doing that led to the fish's death. The sheer shock of going from clean water to an ammonia laden tank could have easily done away with even a healthy fish. If you really feel comfortable asking for a refund on something that was most likely caused by your own hand, then I'd politely like to ask you to stay out of my store.

I never said i wasn't responsible and the fact that you are taking this personally cracks me up, but if they have a return policy that states "unconditional" then that means it doesn't matter how it died we will gladly take it back! You are offended because you sell fish and are one of those people that like to fight to the death about taking back a product! once again unconditional means I have the right to take it back! Thanks for your input but in this case policy is policy and I will follow it! :silly:

that's funny, their water is never clean and do you know that we have taken back 17 frogs in less than a few weeks due to the lack of care from the Petco employees. or that walmart has sold me crap that has died in pristine 29g tank, or that the last aquarium we decided to go to tried to sell us fuzzy fungus fish, or that petco tried to sell us a frog with 1 arm saying it could live with one arm bitten off by angel fish that should have never been there in there with the frogs in the 1st place. I have lost more fish from crappy pet stores than you could ever know and 1 time an accident that I am sure you could never have had being as those all of you are so perfect! so I ask you politly to stay out of my post! :silly::silly::silly:

Do what you will Chazs, but don't forget that you get what you put out. Poison begets poison. Enjoy having no scruples.
