I recently found a 125 and stand for sale pretty cheap at my LFS; if they still have it after I get paid I may pick it up. I'd like to set it up as a breeder tank for fatheads, and maybe stick in a divider and raise mosquitofish too. Any ideas for cheap filtration?

It doesn't have to look good, it just has to do the job. I was thinking of sticking a powerhead in each rear corner and surrounding the intake with pond sponge, and maybe also a DIY sponge filter or two along the back. Thoughts?

I'd probably built some PVC overflows and a wet dry - you can get the whole thing built for about 30 bucks plus the cost of the pump, and it will handle a pretty extreme bioload. Buying some cheap sponge and running it with powerheads would also work.

Cool, thanks. I've never used a wet/dry; can you point me to a good build thread or other info so I can figure out how to make one?

In fact, it's so sensible I just may incorporate the same type of trickle filter in my stream-tank sump/fuge. I'll have some time off next week, hopefully I can get all this stuff put together.
