What to put in a new Cichlid Tank 55 Gal

Soon I will be buying a 55 Gallon pentagon corner tank and would like to put cichlids in it. I'd really like to have an Oscar and maybe 2 or 3 other fish and possibly some bottom dewelling loaches. I am pretty new to what fish get along with one another and how many fish would be good to have with an oscar in a 55 gallon. Is there any oscars that are suitable for a 55 gallon for the duration of there lives? Any info or help would be appreciated about how to set up this tank.

A 55g pentagon is not suitable for a Oscar. Oscars require a at least a four foot tank and 18in from front to back. If you could give us the dimensions of the tank that would help us out to suggest what fish might be suitable.

oscars just a pair will need at least a 75gal straight tank and depending on what type of loaches you get will end up on the oscars menu in a hex you be better off with some smaller south americans or central americans like angels or convicts

I would have to agree. My 10'' Oscar alone makes my 90gal tank look small. They require a lot of floor space.

I'm going to agree with everyone else on this, oscars and other large ca/sa cichlids will need a longer tank (oscars need 75g for just one fish 100g for a pair).
You could try a pair of firemouths OR angels and rams if not you could look into african cichlids.

Loaches won't work either for a pentagon tank. Pangios can but that's pretty much the limit.

55G pentagon cannot house an Oscar for life, no way, for all the reasons everyone else has said. A regular 75G for an Oscar for life all by itself would be ok. If you haven't bought the tank yet and can get a regular 55G (4 feet long, 12 inches wide), you would at least have more options of other cichlids you could get, a pentagon tank really doesn't have much of a footprint at all and will really limit your options - but again the exact dimensions would be helpful.
