HUGE STORE CHAIN AND THEIR FISH

It doesn't seem that he thinks it a joke just that he doesn't think one person can change it.
I live in an area where there are two diffrent department stores that carry fish and WM stopped carrying for reasons unknown to me but the other one does and there tanks have gravel but are still uncared for I actually stopped the guy that was servicing some people (well after he was done) and pointed out a dead Oscar and this was his reply " Yeah it happens all the time I cant get them all you know" I was amazed but that is the out look he is trained to have so im saddened about the way things are.

One more thing. If you're going to be contacting Wal-Mart about their fish to ask the to change something, how about asking them to change this while your at it.

(picture)

This is a pic I took the other day. If you could just get them to change the first line I'd appreciate it. I'm sure that if you bring it to their attention that the 10" max size is an absolute lie, they'll change it immediately. If one person can get them to completely stop selling fish at a store with a phone call and a few emails, I'm sure they'll get right on this once you let them know.
It's probably just a misprint right?

Thanks

instead of being sarcastic, and having no faith in the power of the consumer, why dont you do it your own self?

"WINK"

Looks like WM tanks to me. All the WM that sell fish that I have ever seen is bare bottom. Why wouldn't they be for a world wide retailer? Substrate would just be more costly and make the take much more difficult to clean and maintain. Especially since the majority of the employees that they have maintaining the fish tanks have no clue about fish anyway.

There are three WMs locally and all three sell fish and use gravel over the bottom of their tanks.

Not defending them, but most of my fish are from there and I haven't had any problems. But I do agree that it depends on the WM.

It would seem that you think this post is a joke.

I don't think it's a joke. I think one post in particular in this thread is a joke.

I apologize if you thought my sarcasm was intended at the whole idea of the conditions of these fish. I am serious about the false info on the label. bad information irks me.

It doesn't seem that he thinks it a joke just that he doesn't think one person can change it.

I'm glad someone understands what I was saying.

I have faith in the power of the consumer. I am a business man myself and I give in to customers all the time to keep my reputation. HOWEVER, do I think that one person single handedly changed the way a multi billion dollar world wide corporation who employs more people than anybody in the world other than the US government does business with a phone call and 4 emails??? The answer is an astounding NO! Not even one store.

The reason I don't do it myself is because it just doesn't bother me as much as it obviosly does others here. Yeah, I don't like it, but I go on about my life the same way every day and never loose even a wink of sleep over it.

And you think they quit selling fish all because you sent them some emails???
I don't appreciate your "scarcasm"-I would call it something else- and NO I don't think I alone got them to stop selling fish I just think that I helped it along. We as consumers are what made this store a billion dollar a year company and believe it or not they actually DO listen to their customers. Ever try contacting them with a complaint yourself before you go slamming other people for what they have done? You should try it sometimes it's amazing what you can get done being NICE :grinyes:

My sarcasm wasn't intended to be appreciated. I will say make this last post in this thread and then I will drop it in respect of the OP and the other members here.

You said...
I actually got my local store of the same name to stop selling fish. I called and emailed the corporate office as well as complained to the Mgr. After about 4 emails with pics they stopped selling the fish. ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

I only went by what you said. I am sorry if I made you feel foolish. In your very words you said that you got them to quit selling fish. I don't believe you or anyone else did. In fact, if you contact WM and ask, I'll bet you will find that they operate as a corporation. The only reason they are going to quit selling fish at a single store is because the product is not moving and it's simply not financially beneficial to continue the product. The very same reason that all products that get discontinued. They don't sell enough of it to make money. NOT because a few people complain. Did you ever consider that it was very fortunate (on your part) coincidences?
Walmart does not discontinue a product at a single store to make a few people happy. Bottom line. There are organizations made up of millions of "consumers" who protest walmart daily and get nowhere, but you think you got your way. I am a realist. Maybe i shouldn't openly comment on certain topics, but you are living in a dream world if you think that's the case.

I have had to complain many times. I have not however, I have never gone outside the store to take my problem to corporate level. Never had to. Management has always been very helpful in settling any issues I have, but then, I have never tried to single handedly get them to discontinue a product either.

IMHO -

1) Speak to the store manager (not who ever is managing the store at the moment - the real store manager - they typically work bankers' hours) about the issues. Speak calmly and politely.

2) If this doesn't work, seek contact information for the District manager (in store or via web). Same approach, but you may be limited to email or phone.

3) If neither of the above work, write to the small, free newspaper that is typically distributed in the community where the store operates. WM rarely pays for advertising in these things, so use their "letters to the editor" to have at 'em.:nutkick:

In my experience, using step 1 has at least helped for a while. I think I got my local WM to quit ordering GSPs, Violet Gobies and RBPs for a while.

I am sorry that SOME people don't believe in the power of one, I do however. For the original poster don't get discouraged and think that you don't matter, if we all lived by these theories no one would vote because ONE PERSON CAN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

I have just reported one of our lfs for something similar. Dead and dying fish, lots of sick fish with a variety of treateable problems that should never have been offered for sale. None were in QT, the fish in QT were probably the healthiest ones in the store. They had finrot, ich, fungal infections, white spot, and more.

I reported them to the county council, who have passed my email on to the relevant people, just waiting to hear back about whats being done about it. They Even tried to tell me that the fish are meant to look like that.... go figure.. if i knew no better and had no QT tank at home, i may well have bought fish from them and taken the home and added them to my tank.... and thus infected everyone else in there..

I don't work for wally world but I do work for a huge pet store chain and I work in the fish department I am currently the only surviving member as everyone else has been fired. companies that are huge don't care about the quality of the living environments for the pets for the most part all they are worried about is the price tag they can put on them trust me when funds at the store have come to tough times MY department felt it first I have actually run out of fish food before to feed the fish and its hard to give them a decent living habitat when my hours were cut so horribly I went from 40 to 8 hours a week! . . . so enough of my ramble . . . but the reason I feel a fish department is always gunna be the worse in a huge department store is because owners can deal with paying a couple dollars and have the fish die than to have lets say a TV stolen or something like that so its the last thing on there mind and are willing to cut the loses (unfortanately it is always gunna be the price tag)

Sounds like you work for P--CO. With the right sizing that they did, (downsizing) I was lucky that the fish department didn't get touched but the reptile is just a few cages. And my hours where cut too. I'm supposed to be the specialist, but most of the time I'm on the register, so then the aquatics department suffers. Although never in my worse dreams does mine look like that, ever!! I have seen some P--Co that bad too. I cringe at the sight of some of the Wally Worlds. I've seen some that were okay but the fish signs like the Pacus are terrible. The one across the street from the store I work at took out their tanks and they looked like that. Before they took them out, people would see one dead fish in our tanks and complain then go over to WM and buy the fish from there among all the dead fish. When their fish would get sick they would come back over to me and ask for help.

The best one was this guy wanted a puffer and I order him the dwarf puffer he wanted, but he was impatience. He found the spotted puffer at WM and he decided once he got home that he didn't want the puffer. So he asked me if he could just donate the fish to us and wait for the dwarfs to come in. I told him that I didn't have a way to set up a brackish fish tank, so he decide to take them back to WM since he had only got them about an hour ago. When he came back to us to get the dwarfs he said that when WM took them back that they said that they couldn't put them back in their tanks they would have to flush them. :omg: If I had know that I would have figured out something even if that was going home and setting up a tank.
