HOB Filter for Planted Tank

i would stay with the AC personally, it has adjustable flow which the penguins dont, unless you buy the larger models. Your water shoukd have c02 in it just from the fish and the fact that the plants themselves produce oxgen by day and co2 by night. If your plants seem to start suffering you can always do liquid co2 treatments. I would just see how things go first though.

I'm also partial to the Aquaclear filters. It's the only HOB filter I've ever found that actually allows for enough media options. If the flow back into the tank is still too strong, you can always place filter material between the output and the water surface to create a smoother entry into the water.

I have a 46 bow and I use a biowheel (double wheel) and an AC (70). And my plants look pretty good (IMO). No co2 here.
