I just bought a 125 gallon tank on ebay which doesn't come with any lights.. The tank is 72" in length, and 17.5" in depth (front to back). I am still pretty new to aquariums and have no idea where to start looking for a lighting fixture, nor what type of lighting fixture I need.

Any help will be very much appreciated :)

Get dual 36" lights, it will be a lot cheaper.

It depends what you want to do with the tank as far as what kind of lighting to put in the fixtures.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say what I'll be doing with the tank.. I'm going to setup the tank as a fresh water tank for my Oscar that is outgrowing his current tank. I also want to add some other Cichlids in there when I figure out which ones he wont chew to pieces (he's very aggressive).

I would say you could probably get away with dual 36"strip lights if you wanted to go on the cheap.

You can get a glass hood from a hardware store. Just ask the store to cut 4 pieces of glass 36"x~8" then you can find a hinge and make a dual glass hood, along with the shop lights. They make 72 inch shoplights, but you will likely have to hang it by chains from your ceiling.

ahh ok.. I also need a hood to go with the light.. I guess that's why it came to $100..

Follow 247's advice with the lights, then get something like this:

AGA Versa Top Full Glass Aquarium Canopy 72 x 18"

Does your tank have 1 or 2 braces on top? The AGA top is for 2 braces, you'll need a Perfecto/Marineland one if your tank has one brace. I just today bought a glass top for my 125, so have done the research. It was much more expensive to try and have a glass top cut at a glass shop than to just buy it. Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. could not get or cut glass thick enough to use. My LFS got me one for AGA for $46.00.

Good luck with your tank. I, too am setting up my 125!! Mine is high liht for plants and I found an amazing fixtture for $200ish, but would be way too much if you are not doing plants, and your Oscar, etc. would make plants impossible :P

I just picked up the tank today. It actually doesn't have any braces at all. It's just has really thick glass. Now I don't have a clue what to get.
