Hi all.
I have a 55 g planted tank, with originally an Xp3 filter. Everything was fine but then I decided I was going to add a second filter just to make things even better (this just to show you leave good enough alone!)
Anyways, after hearing all the wonderful Eheim stories I decided that was it. Got it in the mail yesterday, put it together, and nothing. Noise. Tried it again and about flooded the living room because I forgot to close the valves (that one was my fault!). Tried it again today and nothing.
I will tell you what I did and someone PLEASE tell me what I am doing wrong or what else I can do!!!!
1. Filled the filter with media. Connected the valves (quick disconnect grey thingies) close to the filter.
2. Situated the input tube and connected it to the valve on the lower opening of the filter.
3. Atached the spray bar to the back wall of the tank.
4. Made sure the valves were open.
5. Grabbed the output tube that comes from the output valve and sucked (yikes!) on it until the filter starts filling up with water.
6. While it is filling up, I connect the output tube to the spray bar. Lots of bubbles come out at this point. Wait until it's done bubbling.
7. Plug it in! And nothing. Just a noise. All of a sudden the tubes are not full of water and nothing else happens. Just the noise.
Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I am just missing the dumbest thing, but I am ready to give up! This better be the best filter in the world once it starts working or I will be done with Eheims for good.
Thank you all for your time!

why suck on the tube lol?I have the same exact filter but i used a funnel attached to the end of one of the tubes.Believe me, i don't want "anymore"fish water in my mouth;)

So do you fill the canister from the input or output? And how do you start the syphon like that? I don't like fishy water either....

Okay, sorry to ask again, but I need to make this work! I suck on the tube and the filter does get full. (Sucking is not the big problem right now, I am actually getting good at it whithout getting a mouthfull) (This is turning into a rated R question!!!!).
Anyways, it fills up. Then what should I do? I plug it in and nothing happens, the siphon doesn't work. Do I need to plug it in BEFORE it is full? Or do I need to close some of the QD valves or something? I looked inside and the impeller looks good (as good as I think an impeller should look), and definitely when I plug it in, there is the noise like it is working, it just doesn't suck water from the tank!
Sorry, people, I am sure I am missing the key part, but it looks like a nice filter and I sure want to make it work. But I am getting to the point that I hope it works in the next few tries or I'll have to get rid of it. My XP3 was a breeze to prime and I did it on the first try. This shouldn't be this hard. Maybe it is deffective???

Try tilting it on its side when its full until you see it purging bubbles. It sounds to me like your impeller is air locked.
