55gal stocked tank and i know nothing about fish

ur roomies are idiots(no offence to u) u should just sell the tank and rehome all the fish for their own good:mad2::mad2::mad2: and if they get pissed tell em too bad

edit: i did read u have a green terror in there with those other fish?????? move him out :@ thats a problem waitin to happen!

hmmm are blue acara and green terrors the same thing?

The only fish we have seen him bother is the firemouth who he occasionally chases and nips at for about 2-3 seconds about 12-18in, the firemouth then snips back and they back off for a while.... usually only happens about id guess once every hour or so as ive only seen it happen about 4-6 times in the 2 weeks weve had them. The firemouth's tail looks like it has a tiny bit of damage, but i think that was from the puffer

no their 2 different species. some visual differneces google them ;) im really concerned for your fish right now :shakehead::shakehead::shakehead:

Is there any chance you can buy the tank off your cousin?...You seem to be already taking care of them and it's be easier if your hands were not tied with not your fish.
Then you could re-home fish that need to go more easily. As others have probably said if the tank has incompatible fish, problems will just continue even if they were well cared for.
BTW, very nice of you to look out for these fish.

when i look up images of blue acara on google it says "also see green terror"... or visa versa, i forget. So I figured they were the same thing. I know I have a green terror becuase of the orange tail, and i thought my other fish was a blue araca, but then realized they were the same thing, so my second guess was a firemouth chilchid...

I dont have the money for my own tank muchless to buy his. I eventually do want to set up my own tank though, im gonna get a free 150gal tank (filled to 60 gal) and i got a free 60gal filter for giving this dude a ride home.

I see it as i take care of the tank and he funds it

I hope to goodness your roomies NEVER have children. I'm actually surprised they can take care of themselves. Seriously, if you know what you're doing fish keeping can be so easy and fun but that tank is asking for lots and lots of issues. You HAVE to get rid of those fish. Just give them away... what are they going to do, vote you out of the house? It's times like this I wish animal cruelty laws applied to fish because this is animal abuse no matter how you look at it. You would be arrested if you put a chihuahua in a room with aggressive pitbulls and let them rip it apart, and this is the exact equivilant of doing just that. This is wrong and it's sickening and since you are the only one to stand up for these poor creatures YOU have to do something about this situation. I'm really terribly angered that this problem is still going on and that you're still allowing it to happen. These fish CANNOT co-habitate... they are living a terrible life and it's not fair to them seeing as they cannot choose to leave. UGH! Please stand up be a man (or woman) and DO SOMETHING about this!

Id love to relocate them, but its not my tank, nor do I have the money to setup another.

My corydoras have just been sitting on the substrate not moving much... Is that bad?

This thread is really just ridiculous. If you are unwilling to do anything proactive about the situation (ie. rehoming the fish and then taking a sledgehammer to the tank so they can't get any more), I would just ignore it completely and your friends will grow tired of spending their money and having nothing to show for it soon enough.

IMO, by you "helping" keep the fish alive, by doing some water changes etc., while they just continue (and I am sure will continue for a while) to get new fish and ignore the tank, you are just prolonging the inevitable. Those fish will all die, and your friends will eventually get bored and stop buying more. The longer the fish stay just barely alive, the more fish they will continue to get, the more fish will eventually suffer and die in this tank-o-death. So I would wash your hands of the whole thing, and then hopefully get some new friends that have a modicum of intelligence and maturity.

:iagree::iagree::iagree: just let em lose interest and get it off them when they lose interest and do everything yourself. as long as your keeping those fish alive, ur roomies will keep buyin fish and killing them which is just wrong
