I recently bout 10 Rummynose tetra's and 3 cardinal tetra's. they were all in QT. I bought them last saturday. Well on wednesday I lost my first. There were no signs of any fungus or any parasite that i could see. the fish all readily ate and were very active. well today when i went to turn on the lights and feed everyone. ( I have several cons in other tanks in that room as well) Either way they were all stuck to the filter intake or laying dead on the bottom. I was treating them all with Pimafix. I don't know what killed them all the tank is cycled ph is kept at 6.8 on that tank. nitrates ammonia and nitrites all 0.... Any Ideas.

Thanks everyone,

What size is the tank? And did you add them all at once? The bio load from adding them all at once could have been too much.

Also, were your tank's temperature was the same as the bucket of water's temperature? For these guys, you just gotta be slow when introducing new water.

while it's not uncommon to get a bad group of fish from the store (even if they don't look sick) all of them except the first one all dying overnight suggests maybe some kind of chemical contamination. even a hard-to-see disease like a viral infection would affect each fish in a slightly different way/time frame. a chemical/poisoning could kill all at once easily.

i dunno, just my opinion. even slightly bad water quality wouldn't have killed all the fish, and the rummies especially would have shown signs (fading red nose color) well before conditions became fatal.

If the nitrates are 0 the tank is not cycled. You should have readings with 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and some level of nitrate. What size QT tank did you use? It is best not to fully stock a QT if not fully cycled and daily wc's are a must. Sorry for the loss of your fish.

what do you mean by the pH is "kept" at 6.8?
By kep at 6.8 I mean that it is lowered our tap water is very hard for 7.8 - 8.2

Why are your nitrates 0? Was the tank cycled?
Yes the tank i cycled I keep it cycled

I have floating plants that suckup all the nitrates

Wow you all act like i'm an idiot i see howw beginners get scared off and the qt is a 10g

The fish were all schooling like normal. although the temp today droped to 72ºF
