3.4 gallon stocking for male Betta?

So far, I've picked up that a 2 - 5 gallon tank is acceptable for a lone male Betta.

I have a 3.4 gallon tank I could use, but was wondering if

a). the tank is big enough to mix with any other small fish, shrimp or snails?

and b). what other 'creatures' do you recommend?

maybe a small snail or two with it.

and bettas should have heaters - they are tropical fish, not cold water. (saying that because you posted this in the coldwater section).

Ya know...I looked up Bettas on Google, and as many links that said they are tropical said they are freshwater...

Erm, OK...how many guppies could I keep in the tank?

maybe two, but it would be cramped and kinda lonely. not to mention they would breed like crazy, unless a same sex pair. i would go with some fancy shrimp, but thats me

I really am hopeless...I'm not going to go into detail about how thoroughly I've screwed up my existing tank...I ought to be branded...

Yes, they are a tropical freshwater fish (tropical referring to water temperature). Cold/temperate water fish require temps of less than 75F. Bettas and other tropical fish tend to do best at temps of around 78-82F.
