Aragonite

I have been doing a fishless cycle for about 1.5 weeks now and I have noticed that my aragonite is turning a brownish to orange color and there are little pockets of color in the aragonite that you can see through the glass that are under the surface of it. The aragonite is about 2.5" deep. Is this just some algae and should I just leave my lights off for a couple days. If it is algae then why would it be under the surface of the aragonite. SG is 1.009 Temp. 77-78. I tested my water yesterday and Ammonia was 0 so I added some more to get it to 2-3ppm, nitrites were off the chart and nitrates were 60, P.H. 8. Thanks!

I have that too. I was told to buy hermit crabs. So I got two hermits for my 10G and we'll see what they do.

I thought hermit crabs lived on land and had a little bowl or area of water. I've never seen or heard of hermit crabs that live in an aquarium full of water. The ones at the pet stores all live on land. I read fiddler crabs need brackish water but I will be putting a GSP in the tank after it's cycled and he'd probably eat the cab.

These are actually two totally different things!!! The land hermit crabs will not last 5 mins in a marine tank, and the marine hermit crabs will not last long in anything but seawater.

Stir up the substrate & do a 50% WC on the tank, before adding more ammonia. No need to have the light on for a fishless cycle. It should be close to done by 1 1/2 weeks now.

I've had the light off for a couple days now and i think thats helpin it go away. I will test water again today and hopefully my nitrites are goin down so I can get him soon.
