150 Gallon African Tank

nice tank. if you siliconed all those bricks together it must be heavy

Just one brick is pretty heavy, so I cant imagine. I siliconed them as I stacked them, cause I knew lifting the structure would compromise its structural integrity. The gluing was just so that the fish wouldnt knock them over when they get big enough to start digging holes near the bricks. Im going to have to ravor blade the silicone if I ever take them out or want to rearrange them.

Thank for all the comments guys!

thats something else id be worried about theres got to be a hell of alot of stress on the glass from the extra weight

it can't be any worse than the structures that 'everyone' who does a cichlid tank seems to build. at least this one is a little bit original. doesn't look bad either. i suggest trading them in for some loaches though...lol... but that's just my opinion

Everyone's always called me on it on this forum, but I've always mixed clowns with africans and never had a problem. The cichlids always just ignore them. That being said, I've never kept anything of a more docile nature with a red zebra cichlid before, so I might try it out one more time and see what happens.

wow i havent seen this idea before not good with breeding as africans like dark caves most of the time for breeding

As far as breeding, africans don't actually care for caves at all, most of the time the caves are there to suppress the aggression and give the fleeing or holding fish a place to hide.

How are the tiger barbs doing in the tank?

They are doing quite well honestly. They usually stay in a school, and dnt nip the fins of anything. They chase each other around, but the ignore the cichlids, and likewise, the cichlids ignore them. I'd never owned them before, but they seem to be nearly as quirky and energetic as Mbuna are, so I have to say I'm pretty pleased with their addition.

I agree with bluekrissyspike-I'm sure that brick formation does weigh a bit, but I have about 160lbs of rock in my 55g without any known probs...
I have to say, I've never seen brick used that way in an aquarium before-very unique! And kudos on mixing your AC's with other non-cichlid fish-I hope it continues to work :thm:
