Ok, so that's just my opinion. It's definitely an awesome piece of bogwood! My other half noticed it while we were in the room where Li set up the MAN booth. It was a piece that was a part of a silent auction with proceeds going to PVAS. He had to have it and I was not complaining so we went back to the Convention on Sunday and basically ended up in a bidding war with a couple of other people but, in the end, WE got the wood! w00t! :grinyes: Now, I really wish I could remember where it was collected from and by whom. It was posted in the room, but I guess I just wasn't paying much attention. If anyone was there and remembers, please let me know! LoL. Without further ado, here is our $90 piece of wood:
Nice, huh?
Here's my silly other half. He's proud of his wood.
I'm still in complete shock that he was bid on it! He's not too big on the aquariums, but I think the convention might have done him in a bit. :dance2:
It's a pretty big piece and it's hollow all the way through. We were really concerned that it might float and not to mention be full of tanins. So, we had to find out. After scrubbing it and pouring a ton of boiling water over it, we stuck it in the tank. This is my 50 gallon tank. It was/is a work in progress. The substrate is 3M Colorquartz T-Grade Black and was just put in the tank yesterday prior to adding the driftwood. The tank will have a DIY hood with at least 4 watts per gallon lighting, canister filter, and pressurized CO2. Right now, the hoods/lights are temporary and there is no filter.
Well, since he was planning on getting this piece of wood, he also spent $60 on some plants for the tank too. I let him attach his Anubias to the wood as well as some Anubias that I had in other tanks since they're low light, but the rest are in another tank until we the hood for this tank done later this week. Oh, for great plants, check out Baylees Fishees! Wonderful people and the most awesome plants! So here is the wood with some Anubias:
So, that's our wood. It's great! The best at the convention! It was nice to also know that the proceeds were going to PVAS. They put on an awesome convention. It was great to meet Li and the MAN t-shirts are great too! I didn't meet anyone else from AC, but I did get to meet some friends from Aquabid. Amazing people! I think we may have been conned into going to the Cichlid Extravaganza in Cleveland next Month :uhoh: :shakehead::grinno:. As I mentioned, check out Baylees Fishees for awesome plants. You can't go wrong buying from Cory. If you look at the second picture of my man and the driftwood, there is my 20 gallon extra tall tank (23" tall) in the background and you can see the HUGE Ozelot Sword plant that we bought from him. The rest of the plants we bought will have to make their debut later on. Right now they're crammed in my over-planted tank waiting to go into the 50. Other than the wood, and plants, the only other purchases that I made was 12 Pygmy Corys--though I ended up with 14 and a tetra of some sort that I'll have to get a picture of for identification--and a trio of Apistogramma agassizii "Double Red". Yay for fish, plants, and wood! The convention was awesome! :grinno:
Thanks again for the t-shirt, Li! :grinyes:
