ABout 6 months ago, I noticed a small pleco hiding in an ornament in my tank. This was about 4 months after two of my three plecos died. I can only get a quick glimpse of it when I overturn the ornament, because he stays there hanging upside down all the time.

It is a very strange looking fish, about 2.5 inches long, it is shaped like a cory, but kind of looks like a pleco-especially the dorsal finn and mouth. It is light colored with blotches of black--looking almost like it had been burned in a fire.

:iagree: It's impossible for those two species to interbreed. Even different species of plecostomus can't always interbreed. Check out www.planetcatfish.com to see if you can identify what kind of fish you've got. Some fish have a very different appearance as juveniles than they do as adults. They almost look like two different types of fish!

Can you post any pics? It's helpful to have pics to really get a good ID.

Perhaps your plecos bred before the others died and this one managed to survive, very well hidden for the past few months? Either that, or it was planted in your tank by aliens! :lipssealedsmilie:

Well, Noodles you must be right--it was planted by aliens! Actually the others must have bred, because guess what? I've just discovered a second one hiding in another ornament. I flushed the first one out of hiding to try to get a picture and it it darted into another hole where it confronted its twin! I still want to get pics because they seem somewhat odd.

No, Jpappy, they don't look like that. The black is blotchy.

Fascinating. Get a pic.

But do they have that body shape? Otocinclus sp. can have different markings...

A pic would help immensely ;)
