150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Nice place you got there!

I think having your tank stand match the cabinet is a great idea! Good luck! Looking forward to the finished product.

Question:

Suggestions on a back for the stand???!!!???

Originally thought I needed it for strength - probably don't.

Should I put a back on with cutouts? The top half missing? Holes for the hoses, etc??

I am completely open to suggestions.

The back (if there is one) is the next thing to go on - ideas??

Thanks!

I agree that you probably don't need a back, but if you really want to put one on there, I would cover the back with 1/2" ply and then router out the 3 openings. The structural integrity would remain.

Not even ... still have to build out the stand and then the canopy and then finish both (LOL). The finish carpentry will take a bit longer than the framing!

Thanks though - I will start soaking the wood. Should I tie it to the slate and arrange it first, or soak it first? After it soaks won't it be a little hard to drill / screw to the slate?

Also, I need to get the light ordered Monday!!

I did find a couple of updated pics from late yesterday and today --

Progress:

Got the ends on (1/2" ply) --

Added the back (3/8" ply routed to fit) --

Dry / test fitting the Alder (will likely be staining it all dark cherry with a poly seal); working on the face frame and end panels this weekend --

More to come ...

Used 3/8" - kind of what I had in mind - just a better look (even if you won't see it) than just 2bys.
