My mystery snails have been having a lot of good times lately. My water is about 2 inches below the top so there is room for eggs. What will happen if I don't do anything? Just let nature take it's course?

Yea, you could have LOTS and LOTS of snail babies. Initially it would probably be okay, but over time the water quality could deteriorate despite your best effort. Also, when a snail tank has too many snails, the shell health starts to decline. This is if you let all clutches hatch.
I think I was just wanting the first clutch to hatch and wondering if the fish would eat the babies. I plan on freezing any more clutches because I don't want a bizillion snailettes. I do have a new 10 gallon set up and cycling but there won't be any food for the babies to eat.
I got hundreds of mystery snail babies from one clutch. If you want the experience of hatching and watching them grow (which is very cool, I must say) then you might want to just try a small portion of a clutch. I got about 100 babies per inch of clutch - it won't take much to completely overrun you.
Wow, thanks for the info. Can I just seperate it with a razorblade? Geeze, I sound like a mother saying that she doesn't want to spay her cat because she wants her children to "experience the miracle of birth".:irked:
there's always scrambled eggs, fried eggs, Eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, egg sandwiches, hard-boiled, soft-boiled, par-boiled------oh wait! Snail eggs. Yes they will hatch all on their own and you'll soon be over-run with them!.
i have found that sliding things up underneath the clutch between it and the glass almost always ruined the eggs that were in contact with the glass. If you want a clean separation from the glass then i would wait 24 hours for the clutch to harden and then remove it by hand.
