the tail part of A molt is see thru/opaque,........... that seems to be the real thing..deceased shrimp

Sorry, I don't understand...?? The tail was quite colored & what do you mean by "the real thing"?
Yes, DarrylR, the substrate is Eco-Complete.
I agree with everyone. Molts are clear and dead are pink.
I saw the coolest thing today. I'm sure msjinxd and other invert fans have seen it many times, but watching a big yabby molt, very intense! I thought it was writhing in pain, lying on its side, but slowly its head/abdomen cover slid over its eyes, until it suddenly shook itself free in a violent flurry. He then stretched for almost half an hour fitting himself into his new 'suit'. He looks perfect.

Cherax destructor. Australian freshwater decapod. 4"-5" down here in the south. We used to catch them in the irrigation channels, boil them on a camp fire and have them with murray cod, tandanus, golden perch, eel or whatever for dinner.
Too much agri-chem runoff and pollution now unfortunately.
They're being selectively breed in Nthn Australia and much larger and more colourful (particularly blue) specimens will be available to both the aquaculture industry and aquaria interests. www.aquablueseafoods.com.au
Watch out for those nippers! They can give a good pinch.

Hate to re-hatch this topic but I never got any responses as to why only the holding females would be dying off. The female discussed in this post has not been seen again.... 
My guess is just because they are more vulnerable when they are holding but someone with more experience may know another reason? And if that is the reason then that would indicate something is wrong in the tank just not so bad that it is killing the strong shrimp.
:help: I really love my shrimp & want more but if the berried females keep dying that doesn't look like an option. Besides I only have 1 female left now!

Just reviewed the thread, and never saw your water params. Have you checked the nitrates? I don't know why that'd hit the berried females first, but it's worth checking.
