I cant believe it AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i walked into the fishroom and saw thousands of convict cichlid eggs as i reached in to grab them my peacocks ate them ALL but 1 oh well hopefully that 1 survives (like nemo )
i have put it in a tank with my baby guppies just wondering if that will be ok or do i have to leave it with the parents.

oh well i will get them there own tank soon enough and from what i have heard there will be THOUSANDS more eggs

Hundreds more like. Besides, cons breed like rabbits so I wouldn't worry too much.

for future reference how can i tell when they are carrying eggs? do they just get fatter?

The female will swell as she gets into breeding condition. They don't carry fertilised eggs; they are fertilised as they are laid.

i think what happened is because i just brought 6 of them i must not have get the male that knocked her up so the eggs were never going to be protected. she was literally swimming around and just dropped them on top of all the rocks which i thought was a little weird.
so the female lays the eggs then the male fertilizes them so in other words the one egg i have wont hatch because it has not been fertilized.

There was no "male that knocked her up". They don't get "knocked up"; the fertilisation is all external. It's not like birds which mate and then later lay eggs.

Females will swell up with eggs without a male present. He's only there, and only needs to be there, when the eggs are actually expelled.

So does that mean that the male fertilizes the eggs after they have been "expelled" or is the male only there to protect the eggs?

if the males only job is protecting the eggs then i could put my pregnant females into another tank till she lays her eggs pull her out and all the eggs would hatch
