No upkeep filter?

I have aquaclears on two of my tanks and I like them alot. I just rinse the filter out in aquarium water when I am doing a water change. Very simple, it has to be, I don't have a lot of patience. LOL I have an Eheim HOB on one of my 20 gallons and I like it also, it is very simple to use. BUt when I was cleaning my aquaclear night before last, lo and behold!~ There were my two missing ember tetras! Little buttheads. I now have a sponge over my intake so no other small fish get sucked up.

most reefers will use powerheads almost exclusively for their bio-filtration. You could attempt the same thing with FW, but it would have to be very lightly stocked or do WCs like every three days or so.

Reefers use the power heads for circulation not bio-filtration. That bio-filtration is from live rocks and sand.

It needs Oxygen. A better comparison would be to an under gravel filter, which works in a similar matter.
