hey guys, i had an idea for my chinese themed tank. if i were to acquire chinese takeout boxes (like what a pint of rice comes in) that was un-used, would i be able to make this an aquarium-safe plant pot?

I don't know if the lining protecting the paper would be watertight; you might need to seal it with polyurethane. Even then I would test a couple in a bucket for a while, to see if they hold up.

I've seen (somewhere) clay pots shaped somewhat like takeout boxes. If you could get some of these, paint them to look like the takeout boxes, and seal them, that might be a better option.

*EDIT* I didn't realize those takeout boxes came in plastic. That's your best option right there.

I would think if it was made from paper or cardboard, it would fall apart over time.

that would be really cool. chinese takeout planters with bamboo in 'em, at least for a little while.

You might be able to purchase online or maybe in a dollar store customized Chinese take out boxes. Like some business can make it for a wedding for example.

I'm doing oriental theme too. I've got a vase from Petsmart with a chinese dragon on it, I also want one of those standing dragons that blow air bubbles out it's nose and one of those lanterns the takeout planters are a schweet idea, but don't worry I won't take them. my tank is crowded as is.
