chinese theme

When I was about 9 I would walk downtown to the Neisners (a so called five and dime store, fore runner to large Discount Stores. K-Mart was originally Kresges which was a five and dime.) I would buy a Moor for a nickel and take it home in one of the little white boxes with a metal bail type handle.

All of the tanks were metal frames with Asphalt sealer. It took me a long time to trust all glass tanks sealed with Silicone. Several years ago the Cory guys bought up all of the slate bottom tanks at the Auctions so that the bare bottom tanks would not freak the bottom foraging fish out when the Cory folk wanted the Cories to spawn.

A far far different world than today.

The little white containers were not always Chinese Takeout containers, in fact foreign food restaurants did not exist in smaller towns and cities.

cool. when i see these my first reaction is "pork fried rice".

jacki that is ideal. if you were here in the flesh i would kiss you. (ordering 2 right now.. one for backup)

Did you see the frosted glass ones too?

Throw a few slightly larger reddish/brown pieces of gravel in there for the pork in the pork fried rice...;)

haha that's what i'm talking about. also some light greens/oranges for peas and carrots! i may have to ditch the white rocks and go yellow for true pork fried satisfaction. this is gonna look awesome. see what a little brainstorming does? thank you all for your input. jacki for the container, and dirtydawg for the accents..... and, again, the filter squeezings. i'm almost there man.

You could also make your own boxes using this template. Print out the 8x8 inch image... scale it to the exact size you want. Or make a few in different sizes.

Use a sheet of white plastic to cut your own. You should be able to find white poly file folders or report covers at an office supply store. Then to make them, cut the design instead of folding them. Leave an overlap at the seams and bond that closed using aquarium sealant.

Also.. for the white gravel or anything else you want spilling out, you could anchor that to a mesh on the bottom. Glue the gravel in place using the same sealant. That makes moving the item and vacuuming easy.
