Thanks everybody for all the feedback!

Okay I like the rainbow fish, especially the half blue half yellow one....

I also like platies and swordatails.....

But one fish I just saw that I fell in love with nearly as much as apistos:

Can I have Killifish? Are those aggressive?

i don't know if ADFs would be happy in there. how tall is a 250? ADF's need to get to the surface to breath, which might be an issue if the tank is too tall (this is all second hand info so don't take my word on this lol)

The tank in question is 6 feet long, 2 feet wide and three feet tall.

ADF?

EDIT: Could this (should this?) be moved to the newbie section?I didn't even see it I'm sorry, these are definitely newbie questions.....

I have also heard this somewhere too. I believe I read that ADFs need a shortish tank to be able to get to the surface to breath and the tank shouldn't be over a certain height. For some reason I keep thinking that a 29 gallon should be the biggest tank they are kept in.

Did you actually measure the tank? 72x24x36 = 270 gallons

The tank is exactly 36" tall, exactly 72" long, and exactly 24" wide.It was sold to us a "250 tall"

here is what it looks like now:

ADF = African Dwarf Frogs. You mentioned you might put them in there. Again, I think the tank might be too big for them. They also aren't very competitive in terms of feeding so if you're planning on having any other bottom dwellers you'd have to feed the ADF's by hand (I have a pair in my 15g and that's what I have to do or my bristlenose steals anything I put in there for them)

That's a fabulous tank and you get the bonus of 20 extra gallons since it is like 269.26 if you do the the math 72x24x36 / 231 (cubic inches in a US gallon).

okay thank everyone once more for your help.As soon as he gets all his big fish sold I will begin on the community using these suggestions.

With the filtration, you think that's enough current on its own without any powerheads?
