I bought my Apple Snail from Petsmart, and it was just a normal looking snail at the time. I soon noticed that it's shell looked chipped and I was concerned that other fish were harassing him. After close watching, I realized that he's MUCH to fast for the fish I have to really cause a problem, and I just don't know what is the deal.

His shell, all the newest parts, is thinner than the rest. I was not told I need to feed them minerals or anything, or if this is normal, and it grows in with time.

Just not as pretty as any I see in pictures, it looks pretty rough. Tips/advice/info?
 
I just started feeding mine fruit flavored Tums for the calcium. I am also going to get a calcium supplement to put in the water. There is a sticky in the invert section that has a recipe for snail jello. I noticed just my males have a problem. I can't figure that part out though.
 
What temperature is your tank? I usually notice really thin growth when the snails are housed in warmer temperatures then are ideal. Try increasing its calcium intake through vegetables or homemade snail foods as well.
 
What temp. range do you suggest for briggs, rach? Also, will the snail's shell be compromised if the temp. falls from 78-73 in a single day? The temp. in my house is in the 40's-50's right now (sux!) so I struggle to keep my fish warm at a constant temp. Sorry to derail!!
 
I have some in 78 in my community tanks as well. When doing an invert specific tank, or treating an ill/poor condition snail, I keep the temperature lower as it makes them grow slower and consequently their shell is thicker.

Man, I was hoping you'd check this out. Your snails are so beautiful!

I keep it right around 74 myself, the temp does not change. I can't afford to buy the ingredients on your snail jell-o list right now(no job, so I am stretching to feed myself). I will go buy some Tums though! What kind do you suggest?
 
You could try veggies such as collards. They'll take almost anything. Weigh them down with a spoon if they float. Cucumber slices often float in particular unless you can stick something to it to weigh it down.
